The Excel DATEVALUE function is used to convert a date in Excel to text.

 =DATEVALUE (date_text) 
  • date_text – Date in text format.

In the example below, we convert the date 1/1/2006 to the text number of “38718.”

If you receive a “#VALUE error,” this means that the date_text is referencing a cell that is not formatted as text.
