WORKDAY Function

The WORKDAY function in Excel takes a date and returns the nearest working day. This is achieved based on user specified values. For example, these values would be operating days, holiday’s, etc. This is explained in the examples below.

Syntax:

=WORKDAY (start_date, days, [holidays])
  • start_date – The starting date
  • days – Working days before or after the start_date
  • holidays (optional) – Specified non-working dates.

WORKDAY Function Usage Example

While using the function, a positive number of days calculates future dates while a negative number calculates past dates.

Usage Notes

  • The WORKDAY Function does not count the start_date as a working day
  • Saturday and Sunday are excluded by default. The WORKDAY.INTL Function lets you customize specific dates.
