The Excel RAND function returns a random number between 0 and 1. This is a rather simple function in Excel, but can be useful in a number of cases. Let’s look at the syntax:
=RAND ()
Every time a spreadsheet calculated, the RAND Function will auto recalculate as well. There are two fixes to prevent this from happening
- Press F9 – This converts the formula into a final result
- Copy the cell, or cells, then hit Paste Special > Values.
For random numbers between certain values, check of the RANDBETWEEN function.
